Moissac is a stop on the pilgrimage to Saint James of Compostella, 16,000 pilgrims walk through the town each year. Do you recognize the scallop shell symbol on the gates?

Instead of presenting a few details of the Revelation by the Apostle John I prefer to show you two of the grotesque animals of the right abutment.

Waiting for the rain to stop these pilgrims seek protection from Mary in the abbey church.

In fact the purpose of my visit to Moissac was to listen to my friend Christine at the concert concluding her singing course "Hildegarde de Bingen" within the Organum Association directed by Marcel Pérès.

Orgue de l'an mil vue de la nef centrale/The organ as seen from the central nave.

This organ has been built by Yves Cabourdin in 1982. It has been built according to medieval iconography and manuscripts because there is no such organ surviving of that time.

This Sunday morning:
These quite modest flowers enlighten my day. I never felt so sad about having to vote.

An hour away, north of Toulouse, Moissac is famous for its Saint Peter's Abbey.

Among the oldest of the Roman Art
The cloister is dated 1100 and is a masterpiece of the Romanesque art. The religious life of the Benedictine monks stops with the 1790 Revolution.

76 columns capitals describe vegetals, animals, evoque scenes of the bible or the life of saints like here  St Mark with a lion's head and a opened book in his hand. To recognize the lion's head is, by he way, a challenge.

Le château d'eau de Toulouse

180 1 photo 1IMG_3539_zpsde5fcf94.jpg
Toulouse, mars 2013

Close to the Garonne « the Château d’eau. »
In 1789 Charles Laganne donated a large amount of money to the city of Toulouse so that water could be available to the people of Toulouse. The water coming from the Garonne was purified and then stocked in the water tower, then redistributed to 90 public fountains. With the arrival of tap water the water tower was abandoned.

In 1974 Jean Dieuzaide (1921-2003) a famous French photograph founded the actual cultural center dedicated to the photography, the first of the kind in France.

Mutation

159 1
Tournefeuille, 16 janvier 2013

Mutation
If it is rice which grows under water in China or close to Sacramento, California, then here in Tournefeuille it’s the vine…

Saturnin

157 1
Toulouse, janvier 2013

Quelques faits :

A few facts:
To begin with the basilica was built during the 11th century, in honour of Saturnin († 202), first bishop of Toulouse, Sernin being the Occitan name for Saturnin. Then an abbey till 1790 and a stopping place on the way to Compostelle. This is the biggest roman church in the world still standing! It is made of bricks and stones, a lot of bricks because of the high price of stone.

  157 2

Frescoes were discovered following interior restoration in the second half of the 20th century. I will add details relative to this edifice from time to time.

157 3

In the meantime I leave you with Saint Phebade, bishop of Agen in 345!

Entre le jour et la nuit

156 1 Tournefeuille, 2012

Between day and night
Dandelions close themselves at night and open in the morning or is it the other way round do they open in the morning to close at night?

156 2

Have you read Tanpopo by Yasunari Kawabata? It is an unfinished novel, slightly confusing but at the same time a captivating book.

Utopia

102 1 Tournefeuille, juin 2012

This theater is part of a theater network dedicated to independent films. Such theaters now present in several towns across the country. A monthly gazette informs us of the ongoing movies.
  102 2

But perhaps not such a look inside nor such a climbing vine outside in each theater!

Paysage culturel!

47 1 Tournefeuille, 3 mai 2012

Je vous laisse lire l’affiche… !
 Franchement qui a besoin d’une traduction ??

« Ready to rock ?

Cultural landscape !

I let you read this poster on a city wall in Tournefeuille. Let me know if you need a translation.

It’s really too bad for the French language which deserves better… in my opinion.
Rather admire the brick wall full of pattern and color…
