 A une heure en voiture au nord de Toulouse Moissac est célèbre pour son abbaye Saint Pierre.

An hour away, north of Toulouse, Moissac is famous for its Saint Peter's Abbey.
 

Le cloître date de 1100: l'art Roman par excellence. La vie religieuse des moines bénédictins s'achève avec la révolution en 1790.

Among the oldest of the Roman Art
The cloister is dated 1100 and is a masterpiece of the Romanesque art. The religious life of the Benedictine monks stops with the 1790 Revolution.
 

 

76 chapiteaux qui évoquent des végétaux, des animaux, des épisodes de la bible, des récits de la vie de saints comme ici Marc à la tête de lion avec dans la main un livre ouvert. Reconnaître la tête de lion est difficile soit dit en passant.

76 columns capitals describe vegetals, animals, evoque scenes of the bible or the life of saints like here  St Mark with a lion's head and a opened book in his hand. To recognize the lion's head is, by he way, a challenge.

 

Le couvent

L’exposition  présentée dans le billet précédent est une bonne occasion de vous montrer quelques autres vues du couvent des Dominicains, ici l’église gothique « méridionale » le clocher a été bâti entre 1275 et 1298.

The exhibit shown in the previous post is an excellent opportunity to show you a few views of the Dominican monastery: here the Gothic Church with its tower bell built between 1275 and 1298.

Ici une vue du cloître avec ses 160 colonnettes de marbre de style baroque languedocien. Le cloître a été en partie détruit au 19éme siècle comme l’a été le couvent mais reconstruit petit à petit au 19ème et au 20ème siècle.

Here a view of the cloister with its 160 marble columns of the baroque style, typical of the Languedoc region. The cloister has been partly destroyed at the same time as the convent during the 19th century but has been gradually rebuilt during the 19th and 20th century.

Maison fin XIXème, un bien joli porche. Un ange s’est installé, une raison de se réjouir ces temps-ci où les anges passent  sans souvent éprouver le besoin de s’attarder…
